However, as someone who spent my early education in Abita, I can share that there is much work to be done in diversity. Often times there are no celebrations honoring other cultures besides St. Patrick's Day. As a black girl growing up in a pre-dominantly white community, it was important to see people who looked like me in the books we read, teachers, and administrators. There were not many. It is beautiful (green!) clean, safe, and full of wonderful restaurants and shopping, plus so many great events for the community that include art, music, food, and drink. We love the proximity to nearby towns (Folsom, Abita Springs, Madisonville, and Mandeville); there’s never a shortage of things to do. We enjoy kayaking, cycling, walking and taking our golf cart downtown. We love being outdoors and dining al fresco, which we get to do nearly year-round with the beautiful weather here in Southeast Louisiana. People are friendly and helpful to each other, and the Northshore has a very family-friendly and wholesome vibe. It is very quiet after 9:00pm here, but it’s just 45 min to New Orleans if you’re after nightlife and all the festivities there. We are team “Love Cov” for sure!...
