Is Handshake just for college students? ›

All of the jobs on Handshake are meant for students—in fact, Handshake has the most opportunities for studentsand new college grads of any job platform.

We do not believe in charging for job postings or access to universities, so there is no associated cost. Handshake is LSU's online career platform, connecting students to employers, job opportunities, career events, and career resources. On-campus jobs are continuously being posted to Handshake throughout the year.

GPA. A student's GPA is never viewable unless the student expressly opts-in to make it public. If a student does choose to make their GPA public, this information is visible to employers only. Other students or alumni won't be able to view another student's GPA, even if the GPA is visible by employers.

Handshakes can be a valuable communication tool for making a first impression. These gestures are often exchanged within the context of business or social relationships. They signify a greeting, but they also help inspire feelings of trust and intimacy.

Certain individuals who are neither a student, part of a University partner/career center, nor an authorized user under an employer may create a user account on Handshake. To create and use an individual account, you must be at least 18 years old.

Our Verdict. Handshake is one of the best free job posting sites because it focuses on connecting college students and college graduates to employers.

Handshake offers two hiring plans, a Core plan and a Premium plan. The Core plan includes free job posting but has limited features. The Premium plan offers full hiring features, but employers must contact the company for pricing details.

Similar to College Recruiter and most job boards, Handshake generates the bulk of its revenues from employers. Employers can manually post a job for free, but posting a job to Handshake does not mean that candidates will see it.

Handshake is the premier platform for UC Berkeley students to find jobs and career resources.

You do not need to modify your account to make it an alumni account. However, to keep using the platform as an alumni, we strongly suggest the following steps: Update Your Email: Change your primary email address to a personal one to maintain access to your account if you lose access to your school email.

Students and alumni have the same access on Handshake with a Student account. However, some features may only be available to those who are attending the current school year. You may need to be approved by the school to access all of their offerings.

Handshake will never sell personal student data

Our business model is based on offering valuable tools for our student and employer users that enhance the career discovery process. Your email address and personal data will never be sold to any third party.

While you may upload as many documents as you like, only one resume may be featured on your profile (visible) at a time. This helps reduce confusion for employers and career services. If you have a Campus Profile, note that your documents are never visible to other students in Handshake!

To access Handshake, a user account is required. If you have received an invitation from a school or colleague, you can create an account by clicking the link provided in the invitation email.

Students and new grads should put your education at the top of your resume. Once you have more work experience under your belt, you should move this section under experience. If you're in your first or second year of school, you can also list your high school information.

Handshake was created to ensure that all college students have equal access to meaningful careers. Since our 2014 founding, our network of university and employer partners—and the impact for students— has grown exponentially. Within a few years, Handshake has become the leading early career community in the US.

All students on Handshake have a profile and can view the Explore People page. However, only students that have their privacy settings set to Community can engage with other peers on the Explore Students page. Without this privacy setting, one cannot view full profiles or send peer messages.
